Israel Vs Lebanon
Is deciding on who is justified in Israel-Lebanon conflict, a Wrong Vs Wrong decision? OR Is it a Right Vs Right decision? Its definitely not of easiest form- Right Vs Wrong.
Its definitely not Right Vs Right as it involves killing of innocent people, including children who were not even old enough to decide whom to support or who is justified.
Also, the whole idea of deciding “who is justified?” being a wrong Vs wrong decision is apocryphal and paradoxical itself.
Sounds confusing and complex? Well, these are the two basic ingredients of any conflict and we are discussing a conflict gripping the whole world presently.
Who is right and who is wrong is derived from historical data of fouls committed and its chronological order. Its quite similar to the ages old question- “who came first, hen or egg?” Presently, the importance of deciding on future course of action, by Israel and international community, outweighs the discussion on who is justified based on the past. But, as always, we are guided in present by our past and our future is guided by our present.
Israel is bombarding South Lebanon ostensibly to force Hizbollah to release its soldiers, pressurize the militants to pull out of south Lebanon, which is contiguous to Israel. But the real purpose of this retaliation is to weaken the Hizbollah’s military capabilities and degrade south Lebanon’s infrastructure, which is in favor of both US and Israel. Though this retaliation is not the result of the abduction of two Israeli soldier, it is the result of numerous past strikes by Hizbollah on Israel. These strikes were building the pressure inside the volcano and now they are suffering from its eruption.
US on other hand, which is a mentor to Israel, is numb over the issue. It is not that its neutral, it is actually delaying the deployment of international peace keeping forces on the border, so that Israel could weaken Hizbollah to an extent that it no longer remains a threat.
The delay in deployment of intl. force highlights the degradation of power of UN, to protect innocent civilians during conflicts. This is a serious issue for the whole world. Its not cynicism that is urging me to say that nothing can be done regarding degradation of power of UN, it is a law that “the one who is powerful, guides the course”, which guides this reasoning of mine.
The west and its allies should realize that a military action won’t eradicate hizbollah or any terrorist organization. Last decade has proved to the world that military action is not an efficient way to fight terrorism. Military action is rather a failure, leave alone questioning its efficiency. Its not that I favor Hizbollah or support their ways, its just that the present course of action looks futile to me and its continuation will cost lives of more innocent civilians.
Its tough making a wrong Vs wrong or right Vs right decision but its sometimes tougher when u have to make a decision whether it’s a wrong Vs wrong or right Vs right decision.
